Living and working in Ericeira (Portugal) where surf is recon to be the number one sport activity. With the Atlantic Ocean as an eternal companion the little fishing village carries its title as the surfing Mecca of Europe with honor.
During his years as a shaper Tó Maia has worked close with some of the best shapers in the world. Learning new techniques and designs. With his ability as a surfer and his straight forward and honest nature he has become respected for his shapes amongst his peers and the industry. By 2009 he has arguably shaped and designed some of the most advanced and high performance boards on the Portuguese market.
With team riders like Petterson Thomaz (BRA) and Felipe Alberto (BRA), that made clean tables at the junior pro competitions this season (09), Insane Surfboards will definitively be a brand to watch out for.
A trabalhar e a viver na Ericeira (Portugal) e onde o surf é considerado como uma das principais atracções desportivas,Tó Maia vive com o Oceano Atlântico como um eterno companheiro e esta pequena vila que carrega em si o titulo de meca do surf na europa e com muita honra.
Durante estes anos como shaper,Tó Maia teve a oportunidade de trabalhar junto de alguns dos melhores shapers que por Portugal passaram aprendendo e desenvolvendo novas tecnicas e designs.
Sendo uma pessoa com alguma habilidade,directa e aberta, foi ao longo dos anos ganhando atraves do seu trabalho respeito e nome entre os locais e pessoas ligadas ao mundo do surf.
Até 2009 provavelmente desenhou e produziu algumas das pranchas mais high performance existentes no mercado nacional.
Com team riders como Petterson Thomaz (BRA) e Filipe Alberto (BRA) a competir nos campeonatos pro junior europeus onde Petterson Thomaz conquistou dois primeiros lugares (ver links) e foi o atleta revelação no Quiksilver pro junor 2009 em carcavelos a Insane surfboards será definitivamente uma marca a ter em conta

With the Atlantic Ocean as an eternal companion the little fishing village named after a sea urchin, carries its title as the surfing Mecca of Europe with honor.
With more than 20 world class surf spots and as the yearly host of the WQS competition, Ericeira attracts thousands of surfers every year.
Ericeira picks up north, west and south swells, making surf conditions very consistent. During winter the swell size is around the 6ft mark but can get to 15ft or more, making it a spot for those looking for challenging surf. There is surf throughout the summer months and you can expect waves of 3-5ft.
Put it this way: Aussie traveler Daf Williams -- who'd just returned from four months in Indo and two months at J-Bay -- got three tubes on one 8-foot wave at Coxos, smashed his 7'0" into three pieces on the rocks, came in and said, "That's the best tube I've ever got. I'm going home."
